Private Residence II

Palo Alto
CA
1999
The owners of this new home began with a simple but very clear program. There should be clear distinctions between adult bedroom areas and those of their children; the building materials should be low maintenance but long lasting; there should be a large kitchen and a free flow from inside to outside. The building's design comes directly from these issues. The downstairs has the master suite and the upstairs is devoted to children's bedrooms and a large, flexible family play area. The spaces are laid out with minimal walls to allow broad vistas to the outside. To contrast the large spaces there are a series of small nooks including a kitchen table and a TV/reading alcove. The building materials include a metal roof, high end aluminum windows and concrete decks.
