High Speed Rail

Palo Alto
CA
2009
This community-based urban design project proposes the under-grounding of the California High Speed Train system (HST) through Palo Alto, California. The project vision is to underground the high speed and commuter rail systems that currently divide the community to achieve the goals of protecting and enhancing existing residential neighborhoods, building a new 4 mile, 31 acre linear park to connect neighborhoods, commercial areas and open spaces, and extend the downtown as a compact, pedestrian and transit-oriented mixed use urban destination. The plan is to use the value created by selling air rights and joint development to generate $700 million to fund the project.
