Mills College Department of Education

Oakland
CA
2000
Settled onto the side of hill adjacent to a creek, this new facility for the Department of Education includes a laboratory school for pre-schoolers through sixth graders, offices and classrooms for the college faculty and students, and a large centralized courtyard for shared activities. The buildings' architecture draws heavily from campus landmark structures by noted architects Robert Ratcliff and Julia Morgan. The buildings are sited to promote joint departmental activities while remaining open to the rest of the campus. This project was designed under a consultant contract with another architect.
